Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate Review

By 00:08 , ,

When talking about repairing the skin at night I usually think of rich creams or gel textured formulas. Well at least that's the most commonly marketed products and currently I'm using a gel formula for that extra hydration at night. I haven't given a thought on using oils on my face. Actually the thought of it scares a me a bit. You know, already having oily skin then applying oils on it. *bites nails*

So when  Kiehl's reintroduced its Midnight Recovery Concentrate I wasn't sure what to expect but I was crossing my fingers hoping for the best. Since its launch it has received raved reviews. Midnight Recovery Concentrate comes to the skin's rescue at night as that is when the skin needs to regenerate, repair and replenish after a hard day of  fighting off all the external agressors.

It is a powerful concentration of essential and botanical oils which has been specifically formulated to biologically replicate skin's natural lipids for optimal skin repair at night. Essential oils are a highly concentrated and volatile substance extracted from plants which are usually called aromatic herbs or plants as they have a distinctive scent of the plant, exrtracted by steam distillation. Botanicals oils however are obtained from plants that are fatty, dense and non-volatile. Many contain proteins, minerals and vitamins. These oils are extracted from the root, stem/bark, leaves, flowers, seed or fruits of a particular plant, tree or shrub usually cold pressed or extracted by heat.

There are four essential oils in the Midnight Recovery Concentrate but the main one which is completely unmissable is Lavender Oil. It's a well known fact that Lavender oil helps to relieve stress but when it comes to skin it helps to stimulate skin's repair function and improve skin tone for a brighter and radiant complexion. Then there's Rosemary essential oil to retian moisture, Geranium essential oil which helps to detoxify and enhance circulation while balancing the skin's oil production and Rose essential oil to improve skin tone, helps replenish skin oils and to soften and condition the skin.

Squalane one of the main ingredient in the Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a botanical oil and is also a signature Kiehl's ingredient. It is a botanical lipid that is similar in molecular structure to natural skin lipids. Squalane helps to restore skin's natural moisture balance. Evening Primrose oil is rich in Omega 6 Essential Fatty Acids which helps to maintain hydration and elasticity. Where Coriander and Rose Hip Seed oil contains Omega 3,6 and 9 is included for their nourishing and regenerating properties.

It comes in a blue glass bottle which represents the shade of midnight. The drop dispenser is very easy to use and controls the amount required efficiently. The second I opened the bottle the beautiful Lavender scent comes rushing out ♥. Putting two drops in my palm and inhaling it feels like all the day's problems just melts away. It's extremely calming! The texture is light and it readily absorbs into the skin. On my skin it was a slightly oily finish. The next morning though I noticed some tiny white bumps on my cheeks and my skin felt slightly oilier than usual. Though I noticed that my skin was softer. The same thing happened the following two mornings. So I decided to stop using it for about 2 days just to let the bumps calm down.

I started using it again for a few more days but the bumps kept appearing and my skin still felt a tad oilier. I felt somehow my skin wasn't getting enough hydration as it felt a bit uncomfortable. My makeup also appeared floaty in the day, if you understand what I'm trying to say. I decided to stop using it after my week long second try. The bumps were beginning to freak me out. But one thing though, I somehow slept really well while I was trying out the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. It had to be the Lavender scent!

I'm completely gutted that the Midnight Recovery Concentrate didn't work out too well on me. Perhaps I'll come back to it again for another try. But don't let my experience deter you from trying it out for yourself as you can actually get a sample of it from a Keihl's store provided it is in stock.

  1. Apply two-three drops of Midnight Recovery Concentrate onto the top of a clean hand.
